Outbound email
An outbound email configuration defines how packages send email. A package sends email with
sendMail, optionally generating the subject and body from a
template.
Outbound email configurations are configured in the Outbound email configurations tab. A configuration consists of:
- The transport: an SMTP server with basic authentication, a Microsoft 365 app registration (certificate or client secret) sending through Microsoft Graph, or the built-in mail server of the automator.
- The sender details added to every message: from, reply-to, and optional cc and bcc recipients.
The default configuration
One configuration per environment can be marked as default. sendMail uses it when no configuration name is given,
so most packages never need to name a configuration.
Testing
A configuration can override recipients for testing: every message is delivered to a single address instead of its real recipients. This is useful in development and test environments, where packages run against test data but would otherwise email real people.
